Pahalgam, November 12,2025: The scenic hill resort of Pahalgam came alive on Tuesday as the much-awaited Winter Cup Bagwani kicked off with great enthusiasm and participation from sports lovers and locals alike. The event marks the beginning of the winter sports and cultural calendar in south Kashmir’s popular tourist destination.
Organised by the Department of Youth Services and Sports (DYSS) in collaboration with local sports associations, the Winter Cup aims to promote adventure sports, youth engagement, and tourism in the Valley.
The opening ceremony witnessed an impressive turnout of young athletes, adventure enthusiasts, and spectators, who gathered amid the snow-clad peaks to celebrate the spirit of sportsmanship and camaraderie. Events ranging from snow football and volleyball to skiing demonstrations and cultural performances added colour and energy to the day’s proceedings.
Officials from the District Administration Anantnag and the Tourism Department highlighted the importance of such initiatives in boosting local tourism and providing a platform for youth talent. “Pahalgam has immense potential for winter sports, and the Winter Cup Bagwani will help attract more visitors and athletes to the region,” an official said.
The tournament is expected to continue through the week, with teams from across Anantnag, Pulwama, and Kulgam competing in various disciplines.
The event’s festive atmosphere reflects a growing trend of sports-driven tourism in Jammu and Kashmir, blending adventure, culture, and community participation under the winter sun of Pahalgam.
