Winter Break in Jammu and Kashmir extended until March 6; schools to reopen on March 7, announces Sakina Itoo

Jammu, February 28, 2025 – The winter vacation for all school classes in Jammu and Kashmir has been extended until March 6, Education Minister Sakina Itoo announced. Schools, originally slated to resume earlier, will now reopen on March 7 due to ongoing weather concerns.

The decision comes as heavy rainfall and cold conditions persist across the region, raising safety issues for students and staff. “In response to the prevailing weather conditions in the valley, schools up to the higher secondary level will now reopen on March 7, 2025,” Sakina Itoo stated in a post on X, reflecting the government’s focus on ensuring student well-being.

This extension follows reports of adverse weather, including a surge in the Jammu Tawi River to 14 feet—a level deemed dangerous—prompting heightened vigilance from the Flood Control Department. The prolonged break aims to keep students safe amid these challenging conditions.

Parents and students are advised to stay updated through official channels as the situation develops. Schools across the Kashmir Division and winter zones of Jammu Division will resume regular sessions on March 7, barring any further weather-related changes.
