Jammu, January 17,2026- Lieutenant Governor Shri Manoj Sinha on Thursday emphasized that Universities 2.0 must move beyond the traditional role of awarding degrees and emerge as dynamic hubs of innovation, research, entrepreneurship, and social transformation. Addressing students, faculty members, and academic leaders at a higher education event, the LG said universities have a critical responsibility in shaping an inclusive, progressive, and knowledge-driven society.
LG Sinha underlined that modern campuses should act as centres of problem-solving, addressing real-world challenges through research, innovation, and community engagement. “Universities are not just places of learning; they are engines of social change and nation-building,” he said, adding that higher education institutions must align academic excellence with societal needs.
Highlighting the vision of New Education Policy (NEP) 2020, the Lieutenant Governor stressed the importance of multidisciplinary education, skill development, critical thinking, and innovation-led growth. He called upon universities to foster start-up culture, promote industry-academia collaboration, and encourage students to pursue research that contributes to local and national development.
The LG also urged academic institutions in Jammu and Kashmir to play a proactive role in nurturing youth leadership, ethical values, and civic responsibility, while leveraging technology and digital platforms to enhance learning outcomes. He noted that empowering students with creativity, adaptability, and social consciousness is essential for building a resilient and future-ready India.
LG Sinha reiterated the administration’s commitment to strengthening the higher education ecosystem in J&K by improving infrastructure, faculty development, and global academic partnerships. He expressed confidence that universities, by embracing innovation and social responsibility, can become catalysts for sustainable development and positive societal change.
