Union Home Minister Amit Shah concludes 3-day Jammu and Kashmir visit, leaves for Delhi

Srinagar, April 08, 2025 – Union Home Minister Amit Shah departed for Delhi today after completing a three-day visit to Jammu and Kashmir, during which he reviewed the region’s security landscape, met with families of martyred police personnel, and assessed ongoing development initiatives. The high-profile visit, which began on April 6, underscored the central government’s focus on ensuring stability and progress in the Union Territory amidst a recent spike in terror activities.

Amit Shah arrived in Jammu on Sunday evening and kicked off his tour with a meeting at the BJP headquarters in Trikuta Nagar, engaging with party MLAs and senior leaders. The visit coincided with the Bharatiya Janata Party’s Foundation Day celebrations, adding a political dimension to the agenda. On Monday, April 7, the Home Minister traveled to the BSF Border Outpost Vinay in Kathua, near the International Border with Pakistan, to evaluate security measures and ground realities firsthand. During this leg, he also met with the families of Jammu and Kashmir Police personnel killed in the line of duty, presenting appointment letters to some as part of compassionate employment schemes.

The final day of the visit, Tuesday, April 8, saw Amit Shah in Srinagar, where he chaired two high-level meetings at Raj Bhavan. The first focused on the progress of developmental projects across the Union Territory, while the second was a security review session attended by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, top Army and paramilitary officials, intelligence heads, and senior civil administrators. Discussions centred on countering infiltration attempts, particularly in the Jammu region, and strengthening efforts to eliminate terrorism in both the Kashmir Valley and the mountainous districts of Kathua, Udhampur, and Doda.

A senior official described the visit as a “strategic stocktaking,” noting Shah’s emphasis on achieving “zero infiltration” and bolstering security infrastructure. The Home Minister’s departure from Srinagar in the afternoon marked the end of a packed itinerary that balanced security concerns with developmental oversight, reflecting the dual priorities of the Modi government in Jammu and Kashmir.

The visit comes at a critical juncture, with the Union Territory preparing for significant events like the upcoming Amarnath Yatra and the anticipated launch of the first train between Katra and Srinagar later this month. Shah’s engagements have been closely watched for signals on the government’s long-term plans, including the restoration of statehood—a topic that remains a point of discussion among local leaders and residents.

As Amit Shah returned to Delhi, officials expressed confidence that the outcomes of this visit would pave the way for enhanced coordination between security forces and the administration, ensuring both peace and progress in Jammu and Kashmir.
