Udhampur , November 24, 2025: Deputy Commissioner Udhampur, Saloni Rai today felicitated young judoka Pritama Devi, who clinched a silver medal at the Sub-Junior National Judo Championship, along with Chief Judo Coach Suraj Bhan Singh for their exceptional contribution to sports in the district.
Pritama Devi, daughter of Yashpal and a resident of Shivnagar, Devika (Udhampur), won the silver medal in the national championship held in Hyderabad, Telangana, from 16–20 November 2025. She has been undergoing rigorous training at Subhash Stadium Indoor Complex Judo Hall under the guidance of Chief Judo Coach Suraj Bhan Singh of the J&K Sports Council.
A total of 16 players from Jammu & Kashmir — 8 boys and 8 girls — participated in the championship. Apart from Pritama’s achievement in the minus 40 kg category, young athletes from Ganderbal, Kashmir, also secured two bronze medals, marking an impressive performance for the UT contingent.
Congratulating Pritama, the DC lauded her hard work, discipline, and dedication, and appreciated Coach Suraj Bhan Singh for nurturing young sports talent in the region. She added that Judo is not only a competitive sport but also an empowering and effective self-defense discipline, especially for girls.
