Udhampur ranks second in Jammu division under PM Surya Ghar Yojana, accelerates rooftop solar adoption

Udhampur, July 11, 2026- Udhampur has secured the second position in the Jammu division under the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana, reflecting the district’s strong performance in promoting rooftop solar energy and advancing the government’s clean energy mission.

According to official figures, 1,132 rooftop solar systems have been installed across the district, while 3,484 applications have been registered under the flagship scheme. The growing adoption of rooftop solar is expected to help households reduce electricity expenses while contributing to sustainable and renewable energy generation.

Deputy Commissioner Minga Sherpa credited the district’s achievement to regular review meetings with officials of the Power Development Department (PDD), Jammu Power Distribution Corporation Limited (JPDCL), and empanelled vendors. These meetings have focused on expediting installations, addressing pending applications, and resolving implementation challenges to ensure timely benefits for residents.

The PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana aims to encourage households across the country to install rooftop solar systems by providing financial assistance and promoting clean energy adoption. Udhampur’s performance highlights the district administration’s coordinated efforts to accelerate renewable energy infrastructure and support the vision of sustainable development in Jammu & Kashmir.

With a steady increase in installations and applications, Udhampur is expected to further strengthen its position as one of the leading districts in the region for rooftop solar adoption.
