Udhampur, March 25,2026- In a significant push towards modern and climate-resilient agriculture, the administration in Udhampur has distributed 85 polyhouse units across 11 Panchayats, aiming to enhance vegetable cultivation and improve farmers’ livelihoods.
The initiative, led under rural development programs, includes 66 small and 19 large polyhouses, designed to provide controlled farming conditions and protect crops from adverse weather fluctuations.
Assistant Commissioner Panchayat (ACP) Dr. Ashwani Hansa said the move will help farmers tackle challenges such as erratic weather patterns and crop damage caused by monkeys, a persistent issue in many areas.
“Polyhouses will enable year-round vegetable production, ensuring better quality yield and higher income for farmers,” he added.
Officials highlighted that the project is part of a broader effort to promote sustainable agriculture, boost local vegetable production, and reduce dependency on external markets. By adopting protected cultivation methods, farmers can also diversify crops and achieve improved productivity.
Local farmers have welcomed the initiative, expressing hope that it will lead to greater economic stability and enhanced agricultural output in the region.
The distribution of polyhouses marks another step towards modernizing farming practices in Jammu and Kashmir, with a focus on empowering rural communities and strengthening the agricultural sector.
