Udhampur, November 12,2025 — In a significant step towards empowering rural communities and enhancing farmers’ income, 40 farmers from Moungri, Udhampur were flagged off for a lavender cultivation training programme in Bhaderwah under the Government of India’s Aroma Mission.
The initiative, part of the Purple Revolution, aims to promote high-value aromatic crops, generate employment opportunities for women and youth, and boost sustainable income growth across Jammu and Kashmir’s rural belt.
Officials highlighted that lavender cultivation has emerged as a game-changer for farmers in hilly regions due to its high market value, low maintenance, and climatic suitability. The training in Bhaderwah — known as the “Lavender Valley of India” — will equip farmers with technical know-how, distillation processes, and value addition techniques to maximise profits.
The Aroma Mission, spearheaded by the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research and supported by the Ministry of Science and Technology, continues to transform traditional agriculture in J&K by introducing innovative farming practices and creating new livelihood avenues.
