Udhampur baby kits for irls under Bal Vivah Drive

Udhampur, March 3,2026: In a heartening initiative ahead of #InternationalWomensDay, baby kits were distributed to newborn girls at GMC Hospital Udhampur under the #BalVivahMuktBharat campaign.

The programme was led by District Social Welfare Officer Kanika Gupta, who emphasized the importance of supporting the girl child from birth and promoting maternal and child healthcare. The initiative primarily focused on assisting families belonging to the Below Poverty Line (BPL) category.

The distribution drive forms part of the broader objectives of the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao campaign, which seeks to address gender discrimination, encourage education for girls, and ensure their well-being and empowerment.

Speaking on the occasion, Kanika Gupta highlighted that providing essential newborn kits not only supports underprivileged families but also reinforces the message that every girl child is valued and deserves equal care and opportunities. The kits included basic infant care items aimed at promoting hygiene, nutrition, and safe early childhood practices.

Hospital authorities and healthcare staff also stressed the importance of institutional deliveries, regular health check-ups, and proper maternal care to ensure healthy outcomes for both mother and child.

The initiative reflects the district administration’s continued efforts to promote gender equality, prevent child marriage, and strengthen community awareness about the rights and welfare of girls in Udhampur.
