On May 15, 2025, the Bharatiya Janata Party organized a vibrant Tiranga Yatra in Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir, to celebrate the Indian Armed Forces’ success in Operation Sindoor, a decisive military strike against terrorism. The rally, stretching from Sher-i-Kashmir Park to the iconic Lal Chowk, symbolized national pride, unity, and patriotism. Hundreds of BJP workers, led by Darakhshan Andrabi, Chairperson of the J&K Waqf Board, waved the Tricolor and chanted slogans honoring the armed forces while condemning Pakistan-sponsored terrorism. The event, attended by civil society and NGOs, underscored India’s resolve and Kashmir’s integration into the nation.
Operation Sindoor, launched on May 7, 2025, targeted terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir following the tragic Pahalgam terror attack on April 22, 2025, which claimed 26 civilian lives, mostly tourists, in Baisaran Valley. The operation’s 24 precision strikes neutralized over 100 terrorists, including key figures from Jaish-e-Mohammed and Lashkar-e-Taiba, in under 23 minutes, showcasing India’s military prowess and strategic precision. This victory sparked nationwide pride, prompting the BJP, under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, launched an 11-day Tiranga Yatra starting May 13, 2025, to honor the armed forces and promote unity.
The Srinagar rally held special significance in Lal Chowk, a historic site once associated with separatist activities but now a symbol of India’s sovereignty since the abrogation of Article 370 in 2019. Andrabi dedicated the yatra to the nation’s pride, praising the armed forces and Modi’s leadership for sending a global message against terrorism. BJP leader Sajid Yusuf emphasised that the event countered narratives questioning Kashmir’s alignment with India, affirming the region’s integral role in the nation. The participation of diverse groups highlighted broad support for India’s stance.
Nationwide, similar rallies in cities like Pahalgam, Kupwara, Bhubaneswar, Jaipur, Mumbai, and Bengaluru amplified the message of unity. In Odisha, Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan led a rally, while in Rajasthan, Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma called the yatra a societal tribute to the armed forces. BJP MP Naveen Jindal announced Rs 5 crore aid for martyrs’ families, reinforcing the party’s commitment to soldiers. The Srinagar Tiranga Yatra, with its display of national flags and collective resolve, not only honored Operation Sindoor but also strengthened India’s unity, showcasing Kashmir’s pride in being part of the nation’s fight against terrorism.
