SRINAGAR, JULY 29: In a strong statement reflecting the evolving nature of security challenges, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha today said that the “time of conventional warfare is over,” underlining the need to prepare for asymmetric threats, hybrid warfare, and information manipulation.
Speaking at a high-level security and governance conclave in Srinagar, LG Sinha emphasized that Jammu & Kashmir, like the rest of the world, must adapt to non-traditional warfare tactics which target not just physical infrastructure, but also digital networks, social cohesion, and public perception.
“In today’s world, wars are no longer fought only with weapons across borders. They are fought with narratives, misinformation, and cyberattacks,” he said. “We must remain alert to these invisible dangers and continue strengthening our internal resilience and social unity.”
LG Sinha praised the J&K Police, armed forces, and intelligence agencies for neutralising traditional threats, but urged for capacity building in domains like cybersecurity, counter-radicalisation, and psychological warfare.
He also highlighted the role of community participation, especially youth, in defending the UT’s peace gains. “The new battlegrounds are our screens, our phones, and our minds. It is vital that we invest in education, awareness, and digital literacy,” he noted.
The statement comes amid rising global concern over cyber intrusions, foreign disinformation campaigns, and homegrown radical influences that operate beyond traditional military zones.
