With Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha set to preside over the main function, authorities have implemented robust measures to secure the venue and surrounding areas in Srinagar, reflecting the region’s commitment to peaceful festivities.
Comprehensive Security Arrangements
Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir Zone, V.K. Birdi, detailed the extensive preparations following a full dress rehearsal on August 12, 2025, at Bakshi Stadium, where Divisional Commissioner V.K. Bhiduri took the salute at the march-past. “We have made multi-tier security arrangements for the Independence Day celebrations. High-rise spotters have been deployed to maintain vigil,” Birdi told reporters, emphasizing that all potential risks were considered in crafting the security plan.
The security grid includes sharpshooters positioned on high-rise buildings around Bakshi Stadium, aerial surveillance, high-tech CCTV monitoring, and intensified patrolling in sensitive zones. Roads leading to the venue have been sealed, with heavy deployment of police and paramilitary forces, including the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), to conduct thorough checks on vehicles and commuters.
Region-Wide Security Measures
Beyond Srinagar, security has been heightened across Jammu & Kashmir, with checkpoints established along key highways like Srinagar-Jammu and Srinagar-Baramulla. Quick Reaction Teams (QRTs) are stationed at strategic locations, and anti-sabotage checks are ongoing around the venue and its periphery. A night curfew has been enforced in Samba district within two kilometers of the International Border to aid Border Security Force (BSF) operations, effective from 10 PM to 5 AM for the next two months.
The J&K Police, in coordination with security forces, have intensified frisking and identity checks across the Union Territory. “Both human and technical means will be used to ensure incident-free Independence Day celebrations,” a security official stated, highlighting the deployment of armed personnel and plainclothes officers to monitor suspicious activities.
Event Preparations and Public Enthusiasm
The main Independence Day event at Bakshi Stadium will feature Chief Minister Omar Abdullah taking the salute, while Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary will hoist the national flag at Maulana Azad Stadium in Jammu. District-level celebrations, led by ministers like Sakina Masood (Itoo) in Anantnag and Javed Ahmed Rana in Poonch, are planned across J&K.
A full dress rehearsal on August 12 saw contingents of police, security forces, and school children participate in a ceremonial parade, followed by a cultural program showcasing J&K’s diversity. Divisional Commissioner Bhiduri noted high public enthusiasm, stating, “There is no need for special permission to witness the Independence Day function at Bakshi Stadium. Everyone is welcome, and entry is free.”

The heightened measures come amid recent counter-infiltration operations, including a foiled attempt in Uri, Baramulla, where one soldier was killed. IGP Birdi acknowledged the ongoing threat of subversive activities but assured that the security grid is prepared to counter any challenges. “The adversary will try, but our calibrated plan ensures they do not succeed,” he said.
