The Spirit of Eid al-Adha: A Lesson in Sacrifice, Patience, and Brotherhood in Kashmir

May Allah Ta’ala accept our Eid and the sacrifices we offer with sincerity and devotion. Eid al-Adha in Kashmir is more than just a festival; it is a sacred reminder of faith, sacrifice, and the brotherhood that binds every Muslim in the Valley and beyond. We pray that Allah grants us the strength and guidance to truly live by these values. This holy occasion brings to mind the story of Hazrat Ibrahim and his son Hazrat Ismail , a tale deeply respected and reflected upon across Kashmiri households. When Allah commanded Ibrahim to sacrifice his beloved son, both father and son showed unparalleled faith and submission. Ibrahim did not hesitate, and Ismail willingly accepted the divine command. Their unwavering obedience and trust in Allah’s will led to their sacrifice being accepted and replaced by a ram, symbolizing mercy and divine grace. Hazrat Ibrahim faced many trials during his long life—84 years of tests and tribulations—but through patience and faith, he remained steadfast and successful. This teaches us in Kashmir, as anywhere, that when hardship strikes—whether in personal loss, adversity, or hardship—we must meet it with patience and steadfastness. With Allah’s help, we can overcome every challenge. In Kashmir, Eid al-Adha is also a time when families come together to remember the essence of sacrifice—not only through the act of Qurbani but through acts of kindness, sharing food with neighbors, and caring for the less fortunate. The spirit of unity and generosity during Eid strengthens our community bonds, reminding us that every Muslim is a brother or sister, responsible for one another. May Allah Ta’ala accept our sacrifices, fill our hearts with faith, and guide us to follow the noble example of Hazrat Ibrahim . May He bless Kashmir with peace, prosperity, and unity. Ameen.
