March 23, 2025 – The much-anticipated Tawi Filmotsav, a short film festival aimed at promoting local filmmakers and talent, was inaugurated today by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha with a call to harness cinema as a tool for social change.
The festival, held in Jammu, celebrates the region’s rich and varied cultural heritage while providing a platform for budding filmmakers, actors, and professionals in the cinematic arts.
Highlighting the role of technological advancements, LG Manoj Sinha emphasised how modern tools have empowered local creators to showcase their work globally.
“Cinema is an effective medium of education and a powerful agent of social change,” said LG Manoj Sinha during the inauguration. “I urge our local talent to maintain a balance between entertainment and social concern, using this powerful medium for the benefit of society and social transformation.”
Tawi Filmotsav promises to be a vibrant celebration of creativity, with short films addressing diverse themes, from cultural identity to pressing social issues. Organised by the Jammu Kashmir Cine Association (JKCA), the festival aims to inspire a new wave of storytelling that entertains while driving meaningful dialogue.
