Jammu, April 13, 2025 – The serene banks of the Tawi River transformed into a divine spectacle as Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha led the inaugural Tawi Aarti, a ceremonial worship, on the auspicious occasion of Baisakhi. Organised by the Jammu Municipal Corporation , Jammu Smart City, the Directorate of Tourism, and Raghunath Bazar Vikas Corridor Council, the event aimed to revive Jammu’s ancient cultural and spiritual heritage. LG Manoj Sinha, the chief guest, described the Tawi River as the “soul of Jammu,” a living symbol of the region’s consciousness and spiritual journey.
Held at the newly developed Tawi Riverfront at Suryaputri Tawi Ghat, the Tawi Aarti began at 6:00 PM, drawing thousands to witness the 45-minute ritual. LG Manoj Sinha, addressing the gathering, emphasised the river’s significance, stating, “The Tawi is a cultural idea and spiritual flow, connecting us to our roots. This Aarti marks a new beginning in awakening our traditions.” The event, a highlight of the Baisakhi Mela, featured traditional hymns, offerings, and vibrant performances, showcasing Jammu’s rich heritage.
The Baisakhi celebrations, coinciding with the harvest festival and Sikh New Year, included cultural stalls, Dogri cuisine, a traditional Dangal, and activities for children, boosting tourism and community spirit. LG Manoj Sinha’s presence underscored the administration’s commitment to promoting the “City of Temples” as a spiritual hub. JMC Commissioner Devansh Yadav echoed this sentiment, urging residents to embrace the Aarti as a symbol of unity and reverence.
