JAMMU, April 13, 2025 — The sacred banks of the Suryaputri Tawi Riverfront came alive with devotion and festivity as the inaugural Tawi Aarti ceremony was held, marking a pivotal moment for Jammu’s cultural heritage and tourism. Organised by the Jammu Municipal Corporation in collaboration with Jammu Smart City, the Directorate of Tourism, and Raghunath Bazar Vikas Corridor Council, the event coincided with the vibrant Baisakhi celebrations, drawing over 5,000 locals, tourists, and dignitaries.
Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, who graced the occasion, described the Tawi Aarti as a “divine spectacle” that heralds a new era of spiritual tourism and cultural revival. “The Tawi River is the soul of Jammu, and this ceremony strengthens our bond with our roots while showcasing the region’s grandeur to the world,” he stated. The event featured traditional rituals, with priests performing a grand Aarti at 6:00 PM, accompanied by soulful bhajans and the rhythmic glow of diyas along the riverfront.
The launch was more than a religious event; it was a celebration of Jammu’s identity. The Baisakhi Mela, a highlight of the evening, showcased local crafts, cuisine, and performances, while a wrestling competition organized by the JMC energized the crowd, honoring the region’s sporting traditions. These activities underscored the event’s aim to blend culture and community engagement, making the riverfront a vibrant hub for visitors.
The Tawi Aarti initiative is part of a broader vision to elevate Amazing Jammu as a premier destination for religious tourism and cultural exploration. With plans for regular Aarti ceremonies, the Suryaputri Tawi Riverfront is poised to rival iconic riverfronts like Varanasi’s Ganges, offering both spiritual solace and economic opportunities for locals. The event also aligns with ongoing efforts to revitalize Raghunath Bazar, enhancing its appeal as a cultural and commercial corridor.
Residents expressed pride in the initiative, with many calling it a step toward preserving Jammu’s legacy while embracing progress. As the diyas flickered against the night sky, the Tawi Aarti not only illuminated the river but also Jammu’s path toward a brighter, more connected future.
