Srinagar steps up cleanliness drive for Swachh Survekshan 2025–26

Srinagar, February 25,2026- With Swachh Survekshan 2025–26 underway, the Srinagar administration has called upon residents to actively participate in making the city cleaner, greener, and more sustainable by adopting the 3R principle — Reduce, Reuse, Recycle.

Swachh Survekshan, conducted annually under the aegis of the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, assesses urban local bodies across the country on parameters such as sanitation, waste management, and citizen participation. The initiative encourages cities to improve cleanliness standards and promote sustainable waste management practices.

Officials in Srinagar emphasized that public participation remains a key component of the survey. Residents have been urged to segregate waste at source, minimize single-use plastics, compost organic waste, and actively support cleanliness drives in their localities.

The administration highlighted that embracing the 3R principle can significantly reduce landfill burden, improve environmental health, and enhance the overall quality of life in the city. Authorities are also strengthening door-to-door waste collection, sanitation monitoring, and awareness campaigns to ensure improved performance in Swachh Survekshan 2025–26.

Civic officials said that building a cleaner Srinagar requires collective responsibility. “Every household, institution, and market place plays a vital role in maintaining hygiene and sustainable waste management practices,” they stated.

The campaign aims not only to improve rankings but also to foster long-term behavioral change among citizens, ensuring that Srinagar evolves into a model city for cleanliness and environmental sustainability.
