Srinagar, November 26,2025: In a sharp dip that intensified winter’s grip over the Valley, Srinagar city recorded its coldest night of the season, with temperatures plummeting to –3.9°C. The icy conditions led to frost formation across roads, rooftops, and open fields, marking one of the most severe early-winter chills this year.
Residents woke up to frozen water taps, slippery surfaces, and a biting cold breeze that swept through the city. The night temperature dropped nearly four degrees below normal, indicating an early onset of harsh winter conditions ahead of Chillai Kalan.
The Meteorological Department attributed the temperature drop to clear skies during the night, which accelerate heat loss from the earth’s surface. Officials said the cold wave is expected to continue, with further temperature dip likely in coming days.
Meanwhile, shops, commuters, and early morning workers battled the freezing conditions, while households relied heavily on heating appliances to stay warm.
With the season’s coldest night now recorded, Srinagar gears up for an even harsher winter as December approaches.
