Srinagar, September 25, 2025 – In a vibrant display of environmental commitment, the Regional Passport Office (RPO) in Srinagar took a significant step towards sustainability today by organizing a tree plantation drive on its premises. This initiative forms a key part of the nationwide #SwachhataHiSeva2025 campaign, running from September 17 to October 2, 2025, which emphasizes cleanliness, eco-friendly practices, and community involvement under the theme #Swachhotsav. The event, held on Wednesday, saw enthusiastic participation from office staff, local officials, and volunteers who planted several saplings of indigenous species, enhancing the green cover around the passport office located near Nehru Park on Boulevard Road. The drive aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam,” promoting afforestation to combat climate change and foster a cleaner environment in urban spaces like Srinagar.Speaking on the occasion, RPO officials highlighted how such activities not only beautify the workspace but also inspire passport applicants and the public to adopt sustainable habits. “Planting trees today is an investment in tomorrow’s cleaner Kashmir,” one participant shared, underscoring the blend of administrative duty and civic responsibility.
The #SwachhataHiSeva2025 campaign, led by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, has sparked similar drives across India, from railway stations to government offices, focusing on waste management, sanitation worker welfare, and green initiatives. In Jammu & Kashmir, this plantation effort adds to the region’s ongoing efforts to restore its natural beauty amid seasonal challenges. As the campaign progresses, the RPO Srinagar pledges continued engagement in cleanliness and plantation activities, inviting citizens to join the movement for a #SwachhBharat.
