Kashmir, May 20,2026- In a major boost to urban transportation and tourism infrastructure, Srinagar has been selected among 18 cities across the country for the development of Water Metro stations under Phase-I of the ambitious project aimed at promoting sustainable and eco-friendly transport systems.
The inclusion of Srinagar in the Water Metro initiative is being seen as a significant step towards modernizing public transportation while utilizing the city’s vast network of water bodies, including the famous Dal Lake and river channels. The project is expected to improve urban mobility, reduce traffic congestion and enhance the tourism experience in the summer capital of Jammu & Kashmir.

The proposed project is also expected to generate employment opportunities and strengthen tourism-related activities in the Valley. With Kashmir witnessing a sharp rise in tourist arrivals over the past few years, improved transport infrastructure has become a priority for ensuring smooth movement of visitors and residents alike.
Experts say the Water Metro project could become a unique attraction for tourists visiting Srinagar, offering scenic and convenient travel routes across the city’s iconic lakes and waterways. The initiative aligns with the broader vision of sustainable urban development and smart city planning.
