Jammu, February 16,2026- In a major relief for pilgrims and passengers ahead of the festive season, special train services have been extended up to Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra. Train No. 04688/04687, which earlier operated up to Banihal, will now run till Katra, enhancing connectivity for devotees visiting the revered shrine.
The decision is expected to significantly ease travel for thousands of pilgrims heading to the holy cave shrine of Vaishno Devi, especially during the upcoming Holi festival rush.
Special Trains for Holi 2026
To manage the anticipated surge in passenger traffic during February–March 2026, the Northern Railway’s Jammu Division has announced additional special trains:
- 16 special trips between Katra and New Delhi
- 4 special trips between Katra and Varanasi
These services aim to provide convenient and comfortable travel options for devotees and other passengers during the festive period.
Boost to Pilgrimage & Tourism
Officials said the extension of services to Katra reflects Indian Railways’ commitment to improving connectivity to key pilgrimage destinations. The move is also expected to boost religious tourism and local economic activity in the region.
Passengers have been advised to check train schedules and book tickets in advance due to high demand during the Holi rush. Authorities have assured smooth operations and necessary arrangements to ensure passenger safety and convenience.
The initiative comes as part of broader efforts to strengthen rail connectivity in Jammu and Kashmir and facilitate seamless travel for pilgrims visiting one of India’s most revered shrines.
