Srinagar, April 24, 2025: In response to the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam, the Union Civil Aviation Ministry, under the leadership of Minister Ram Mohan Naidu, has arranged four special flights from Srinagar to Delhi and Mumbai to facilitate the safe evacuation of stranded tourists and affected individuals. The initiative, announced on April 23, 2025, includes two flights to Delhi and two to Mumbai, with additional flights on standby to meet further demand.
The decision follows close coordination with Union Home Minister Amit Shah, with Naidu personally monitoring the situation round-the-clock to ensure seamless operations. The Ministry has directed airlines, including Air India and IndiGo, to maintain regular fare levels and avoid surge pricing, ensuring affordability during this sensitive period. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has also issued an advisory to waive cancellation and rescheduling charges, offering flexibility to passengers traveling to or from Srinagar until April 30, 2025.
Naidu held an urgent meeting with airline operators to reinforce these measures, emphasizing the need for uninterrupted connectivity from Srinagar. Air India has scheduled flights departing Srinagar at 11:30 a.m. for Delhi and 12:00 noon for Mumbai, with complimentary rescheduling and full refunds available. IndiGo has similarly deployed two additional flights to assist passengers, reaffirming its commitment to supporting travelers affected by the crisis.
The Ministry’s swift action also includes special arrangements for transporting the mortal remains of victims, particularly from Maharashtra, following requests from state authorities. Food and water provisions have been made available at Srinagar’s Sheikh ul Alam International Airport to support passengers during this challenging time.
This response underscores the government’s commitment to ensuring passenger safety and accessibility in the wake of the tragic events in Jammu and Kashmir.
