Ganderbal, November 5: The picturesque hill station of Sonamarg in Jammu and Kashmir’s Ganderbal district has once again transformed into a winter wonderland, following a spell of fresh snowfall that blanketed the meadows, mountains, and pine-clad slopes in a shimmering layer of white.
The snowfall, which began late Monday night, brought temperatures down considerably and gave the popular tourist destination a breathtaking new look. The Golden Meadow, as Sonamarg is fondly known, is now draped in snow, attracting nature lovers and adventure enthusiasts from across the region.
Tourists and locals alike flocked to the area to witness the snow-clad peaks and frozen streams, capturing the mesmerising scenes on their cameras. Hotels and guesthouses in Sonamarg have started receiving fresh bookings as visitors rush to experience the early taste of winter.
Officials from the Tourism Department said that adequate arrangements have been made for tourists, including road clearance, safety measures, and accommodation facilities. The Border Roads Organisation (BRO) has also been deployed to ensure smooth vehicular movement on the Srinagar–Sonamarg highway, which witnessed light traffic disruptions due to snow accumulation.
Local hoteliers and traders have welcomed the snowfall, expressing hope that the spell will boost winter tourism and bring renewed economic activity to the region. “Sonamarg looks heavenly after the fresh snow. We expect a good tourist turnout in the coming weeks,” said a local hotel owner.
Sonamarg, located about 80 kilometers from Srinagar, is one of Kashmir’s most loved destinations, famous for its glaciers, trekking routes, and scenic beauty. The fresh snowfall marks the beginning of the winter tourism season, promising exciting experiences for visitors seeking adventure and tranquility amid nature’s pristine charm.
