Gurez, Feburary 12,2026- In a unique initiative to promote winter sports and empower girls from remote areas, snow skiing training was organized for young women from villages along the Line of Control (LoC) in Gurez, Jammu and Kashmir.
The programme aims to encourage sports participation among girls in the region and provide them with opportunities to explore recreational and competitive winter sports. Officials noted that such initiatives help foster confidence, teamwork, and physical fitness among young women while bridging the gap in access to sports facilities in remote areas.
Trainers guided the participants through skiing basics, safety measures, and advanced techniques, ensuring a structured learning environment. The event was also supported by local authorities and community leaders, reflecting a strong commitment to youth empowerment and gender inclusivity in sports.
Girls participating in the training expressed enthusiasm about learning a new sport and the chance to represent their villages in future competitions. Officials said the programme is part of ongoing efforts to expand sports infrastructure and encourage the participation of girls in diverse athletic disciplines across Jammu and Kashmir.
Such initiatives are expected to nurture talent from border regions, promote healthy lifestyles, and inspire other young girls to take up winter sports in the Union Territory.
