KUPWARA, August 30, 2025: A team from Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Kashmir (SKUAST-Kashmir) visited Teetwal block in Kupwara district to interact with Self-Help Group (SHG) members associated with the Jammu and Kashmir Rural Livelihood Mission (JKRLM). The visit focused on empowering rural women through sustainable agricultural practices and livelihood opportunities.During the visit, the SKUAST-Kashmir team provided seed bins to 30 SHG members to support their agricultural activities.
Additionally, 15 members were registered to undertake walnut and apple-based livelihood activities, aimed at enhancing their economic prospects through horticulture, a key sector in Kupwara’s economy. The initiative aligns with JKRLM’s mission to promote sustainable livelihoods and economic empowerment among rural women.
The team engaged with the SHG members, discussing modern farming techniques, value addition, and market linkages for walnut and apple cultivation. This effort is part of SKUAST-Kashmir’s broader commitment to supporting rural communities through scientific agricultural interventions and convergence with JKRLM’s livelihood programs.
