Jammu, February 21,2026- Shantmanu was sworn in as the State Election Commissioner for the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir at a formal ceremony held today at Lok Bhavan.
Shantmanu made and subscribed to the oath of office before the Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha, in the presence of senior administrative officials and dignitaries.
The appointment of the State Election Commissioner assumes significance in further strengthening the democratic institutions of Jammu and Kashmir. The State Election Commission plays a pivotal role in conducting free, fair, and transparent elections to Urban Local Bodies and Panchayati Raj Institutions across the Union Territory.
Speaking on the occasion, officials reiterated the administration’s commitment to upholding constitutional values, ensuring grassroots democracy, and promoting transparent governance. The oath-taking ceremony reflects the continued focus on reinforcing institutional integrity and democratic accountability in Jammu and Kashmir.
With Shantmanu assuming charge as State Election Commissioner, the Union Territory is expected to witness enhanced electoral preparedness and strengthened mechanisms for conducting local body elections in accordance with established norms and procedures.
