Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University Foundation Day was celebrated in Jammu & Kashmir on August 19, 2023. The event saw virtual launching of construction projects worth Rs 70 crore. Knowledge is that which liberates. In the world over, this is the only true and authentic definition of knowledge, said the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu & Kashmir, Shri Manoj Sinha on the Foundation Day address. Even the institutions in the Western world are in agreement that knowledge must help to obtain the liberation, LG said. Today, there is enormous information and knowledge available on your fingertips. You just need to tap your smartphone. A student will get to know certain things faster than turning the pages. In these situations institutions will have to recalibrate, reform and readjust themselves to return to the spirit of Vishnu Puran. And adopt the same wisdom which is the foundation of education, LG said. The path to prosperity in life passes through Gurukul. The light of intelligence, the strength of power, education awakens the mind. It offers the ability to question the status quo. It questions soul, the seed of growth. To ensure progress in the country and the upliftment of human society, the entire power of today’s education rests on the educational institutions. It is also the responsibility of the educational institutions to bring changes in the system of 2023 in 2024. And that’s why I always say one thing that youth means a force that can take the world forward. They can change and improve the society as it has been given to them, LG said. And this is possible only when our universities start giving a creative turn to the youth power and youth energy. Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University was inaugurated on August 19, 2004 by the former late President APJ Abdul Kalam. He used to say that his biggest identity is that he is a professor and a scientist. He always used to say that the biggest responsibility of universities is to create research, inquiry, creativity, innovation and enlightened citizens. When we give education to a student, the biggest expectation is that he should do something productive. Something new so that tomorrow he may produce things that were not there yesterday, LG said. I would request all the teachers to apply full energy to change our youth with this approach, only then saying ‘Jai Mata Di’ will be meaningful. And only then we will get the blessings of mother, LG concluded.
