Kashmir, August 6,2026-Jammu and Kashmir witnessed an unprecedented surge in spiritual tourism in 2026, with two of the country’s most revered pilgrimages recording remarkable participation. More than 50 lakh devotees visited the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine, while over 4 lakh pilgrims successfully undertook the Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra, highlighting renewed faith, improved infrastructure, and enhanced security arrangements.
The record-breaking footfall reflects growing confidence among pilgrims from across India and abroad. Improved connectivity, streamlined pilgrimage management, and coordinated efforts by the administration contributed significantly to the smooth conduct of both yatras.
The Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine continued to attract millions of devotees throughout the year, reaffirming its position as one of India’s most visited pilgrimage destinations. Meanwhile, the annual Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra concluded successfully with more than four lakh pilgrims paying obeisance at the sacred Himalayan cave shrine despite challenging terrain and weather conditions.
Officials noted that the increase in pilgrim arrivals has also provided a major boost to Jammu and Kashmir’s economy by generating employment opportunities and benefiting sectors such as hospitality, transport, retail, and local tourism.
The historic turnout underscores the growing appeal of Jammu and Kashmir as a premier destination for spiritual tourism, reflecting both the devotion of pilgrims and the region’s continued efforts to provide a safe, well-managed, and memorable pilgrimage experience.
