Kishtwar, April 1,2026-“Don’t let anyone define your limits”—this powerful mantra continues to guide Sheetal Devi, who has been honoured as the Para Archer of the Year 2025 by World Archery, marking yet another milestone in her extraordinary journey.
The prestigious recognition adds to her growing list of achievements, including a historic world championship title. Expressing her emotions from Bangkok, where she is currently participating in a tournament, Sheetal said the award reflects years of relentless hard work, setbacks, and silent sacrifices.
“It feels incredibly special. Just being nominated among the best in the world was a big moment for me, but winning this title makes it truly unforgettable. It reflects every hour of hard work, every setback, and every quiet sacrifice. This one means a lot,” she said.
Hailing from Kishtwar, the 19-year-old recently scripted history at the 2025 World Para Archery Championships in South Korea by defeating defending champion Oznur Cure. With this victory, she became the first armless woman in history to win a world championship title.
“With humility, I bow down to Mata Rani for her blessings. I owe this to my family, my coach, my team, and everyone who believed in me—even on days when things weren’t going well,” she added.
Born with a rare congenital condition, Sheetal has redefined possibilities in sport. Using a unique technique supported by a custom device known as a releaser, she skillfully uses her toes to load the arrow, align her body with the bow, and execute precise shots—an inspiring display of determination and adaptability.
Reflecting on the most challenging phase of her career, she highlighted the period when she had to completely relearn her technique following a rule change by World Archery. The new regulation restricted contact with the bow to only the toe and front part of the foot, eliminating her earlier method.
Her coach, Gaurav Sharma, explained, “That meant starting from scratch. We worked on strengthening her core, refining her form, and adapting her style while ensuring she remained mentally strong. It wasn’t easy, but we overcame every hurdle together.”
Determined to scale new heights, Sheetal maintains a rigorous training routine, practicing six days a week. “My day starts at 8:00 am and continues till 6:00 pm with a short break. Training includes long hours on the range along with strength and conditioning. Sundays are for recovery,” she shared.
Looking ahead, her focus remains firmly on excelling at major international events. “The goal is to keep improving, stay consistent, and perform at the highest level. Discipline and training have always been my priority, and that will continue,” she said.
For aspiring athletes, her message is clear and inspiring: “Your journey is your own—stay patient, trust the process, and keep showing up every day. Kisi mein koi kami nahi hoti, bas thodi mehnat ki kami hoti hai.”
