Kashmir, January 13,2026-A severe cold wave continues to grip Kashmir as temperatures across the Valley have plunged well below the seasonal average, intensifying winter woes for residents. The harsh chill, accompanied by freezing nights and icy winds, has disrupted daily life, with water bodies and supply lines in several areas partially frozen.
In Srinagar and other parts of the Valley, sub-zero minimum temperatures have led to the formation of a thick layer of ice on roads and pavements during early morning hours, making commuting difficult. The intense cold has also increased demand for heating, with traditional methods such as kangris and electric heaters being widely used to combat the freezing conditions.
Meanwhile, the Jammu region is grappling with dense fog, particularly during night and early morning hours, significantly reducing visibility on highways and at transport hubs. The fog has led to delays in vehicular movement and affected rail and air traffic, prompting authorities to advise caution while travelling.
Meteorological officials have indicated that cold conditions are likely to persist over the coming days, with no immediate relief in sight. Residents have been urged to take necessary precautions, especially the elderly and children, to avoid cold-related health issues.
The ongoing spell of extreme winter weather underscores the severity of the season in Jammu and Kashmir, as both regions face contrasting but equally challenging conditions.
