Secretary Aijaz Asad calls for fast-tracking rural development projects in J&K

SRINAGAR, April 30, 2025 — Mohammad Aijaz Asad, Secretary of the Rural Development Department and Panchayati Raj, conducted a detailed review meeting in Srinagar on April 29, 2025, to evaluate the progress of Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana-Gramin (PMAY-G), Panchayat Ghars, and Panchayat Learning Centres (PLCs) across Jammu and Kashmir. Asad directed officials to expedite pending works, resolve land issues, ensure full operationalization of PLCs, and prioritize transparency, timely delivery, and grassroots development.

Attended by senior officials, including Director RDD Kashmir Shabir Hussain Bhat, Director RDD Jammu Mumtaz Ali, Director Panchayati Raj Sham Lal, and Assistant Commissioners Development, the meeting focused on accelerating rural development. For PMAYG, Asad emphasized completing 2.85 lakh of 3.35 lakh sanctioned houses, urging transparent data verification in the AwaasPlus survey and weekly monitoring to meet targets. He instructed Deputy Commissioners to address land acquisition delays for Panchayat Ghars, with 330 completed this year and 500 planned for 2025-26 under the Rashtriya Gram Swaraj Abhiyan. For PLCs, he mandated full functionality within a week, ensuring equipment delivery and staffing.

Asad stressed inter-departmental coordination to resolve challenges, aligning with his prior reviews in Shopian and earlier directives to strengthen local self-governance. His focus on sustainable development aims to empower panchayats, enhance rural infrastructure, and support Sustainable Development Goals. The meeting reinforced Jammu and Kashmir’s commitment to building a resilient rural landscape through robust Panchayati Raj Institutions.
