Jammu, August 28, 2025 – Minister for Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs, Information Technology, Transport, Youth Services and Sports, Satish Sharma, conducted an extensive tour of the flood-ravaged areas in the Chamb Constituency today to evaluate the on-ground situation and oversee relief operations. This visit comes amid severe flooding triggered by heavy monsoon rains that have devastated parts of Jammu and Kashmir, causing widespread damage to infrastructure, homes, and agriculture.Accompanied by senior district administration officers, Sharma inspected several inundated villages where floodwaters have inflicted significant harm on residential structures, standing crops, and essential local infrastructure. He engaged directly with affected families, attentively hearing their grievances and reassuring them of the government’s unwavering support during this challenging time.
Directives for Immediate Rehabilitation and Support
The Minister issued firm instructions to relevant officials to prioritize the swift rehabilitation of displaced families. Key directives included ensuring the provision of temporary shelters, medical facilities, clean drinking water, and proper sanitation arrangements. Sharma also mandated a thorough and rapid damage assessment to facilitate timely compensation for losses related to life, property, and livelihoods.Emphasizing the critical need for uninterrupted public services, Sharma stressed the maintenance of adequate supplies of essential commodities such as food grains, LPG, medicines, and other necessities in the flood-hit regions. He particularly highlighted the importance of safeguarding vulnerable groups, including the elderly, women, and children, to ensure no household is overlooked.
Coordination for Infrastructure Restoration
Sharma urged officers from the Public Works Department (PWD), Public Health Engineering (PHE), Power Development Department, and Rural Development to collaborate closely in restoring road connectivity, repairing damaged infrastructure, and reinstating power and water supplies as quickly as possible. Additionally, he called on the Health Department to deploy mobile health units in the most severely impacted villages to deliver prompt medical assistance and avert potential outbreaks of water-borne diseases.Speaking to the media during the visit, Satish Sharma affirmed, “The Government is fully committed to ensuring swift relief and rehabilitation for all those affected by these floods.
