Jammu I March 17, 2025 – The Holistic Agriculture Development Programme continues to transform rural livelihoods in Jammu and Kashmir with its innovative “Satellite Heifer Rearing Units” scheme. Launched as part of the region’s broader agricultural upliftment strategy, the initiative aims to enhance dairy production and empower local farmers by providing them with resources and support to rear high-quality heifers.
Noor Allahi, a beneficiary from Dhalwas village, expressed heartfelt gratitude for the scheme, crediting it with improving her family’s economic prospects. “This program has given us a new hope. With the heifers and the training provided, we can now dream of a better future,” she said. Allahi’s story reflects the scheme’s focus on equipping farmers with young female cattle, raised in satellite units, to bolster milk production and ensure sustainable income streams.
Under the HADP, the “Satellite Heifer Rearing Units” initiative integrates modern rearing techniques and veterinary support, targeting small and marginal farmers. Officials note that the scheme not only strengthens the dairy sector but also aligns with the government’s goal of doubling farmers’ income through allied agricultural activities. As of now, dozens of beneficiaries across the region have received heifers, with plans to expand the program’s reach in the coming months.
The success of such initiatives under HADP highlights Jammu and Kashmir’s push towards self-reliance in agriculture and livestock rearing, fostering optimism among rural communities as they embrace these opportunities.
