Kashmir Ahead

Saras Mela 2026 to begin on January 31 at Kala Kendra, Jammu

Jammu, January 30,2026 -The Jammu and Kashmir Rural Livelihood Mission is set to organise Saras Mela 2026 from January 31 to February 9 at Kala Kendra, Jammu, aiming to promote rural entrepreneurship and strengthen market linkages for women self-help groups (SHGs).

The nine-day fair will feature a wide range of handloom products, handicrafts, homemade food items, and traditional regional cuisines prepared by SHGs from across Jammu and Kashmir and other states. The event is designed to provide rural women artisans and producers with a vibrant platform to showcase their skills and products to urban consumers.

Officials said that Saras Mela 2026 will help SHGs access larger markets, enhance income opportunities, and encourage sustainable livelihoods under the National Rural Livelihood Mission (NRLM) framework. Visitors will get an opportunity to experience authentic rural craftsmanship, ethnic wear, decorative items, and traditional delicacies at one venue.

In addition to product exhibitions, the mela will also serve as a space for cultural exchange and awareness about women-led enterprises. The initiative reflects JKRLM’s continued efforts to empower rural communities, especially women, by integrating them into mainstream economic activities.

The event is expected to attract a large number of visitors from Jammu city and surrounding areas, making Kala Kendra, Jammu, a hub of rural innovation and culture during the mela period.
