JAMMU, DECEMBER 03: On the occasion of International Day of Persons with Disabilities, celebrated at the Convention Centre in Jammu, Sakeena Itoo, Minister for Health and Medical Education, Social Welfare, and Education, distributed 10 motorized tricycles (scooties) to individuals with disabilities. Additionally, she presented cheques of Rs 50,000 each to Scheduled Caste (SC) beneficiaries under the Income Generation Component of the Centrally Sponsored Scheme.
In her address, Minister Sakeena Itoo emphasized the importance of these initiatives in fostering independence and improving the quality of life for individuals with disabilities. She explained that the distribution of motorised tricycles would not only enhance mobility but also enable the recipients to engage more actively in society and lead more self-reliant lives. “we reaffirm our commitment to creating an inclusive society where every individual, regardless of their abilities, has the opportunity to thrive,” Itoo stated.
The Minister also interacted with beneficiaries who received the Rs 50,000 cheques, designed to support their economic empowerment. Many of the beneficiaries shared that they had undergone training in various trades, which would help them achieve financial independence and improve their living standards under the Centrally Sponsored Scheme.
The event highlighted the government’s ongoing efforts to promote inclusion, self-reliance, and equal opportunities for individuals with disabilities, ensuring they have the tools and support needed to lead fulfilling and dignified lives.
