Sakeena Itoo launches key flood mitigation initiatives in Kulgam

Kulgam, November 30,2025: Minister Sakeena Itoo on Monday laid the foundation stones for a series of flood mitigation projects across Kulgam district, aimed at enhancing the region’s resilience against seasonal floods and waterlogging.

The projects include the construction of protective embankments, improvement of drainage systems, and strengthening of riverbanks, which are expected to safeguard residential areas, farmlands, and public infrastructure. These measures are part of the government’s broader strategy to bolster disaster management and climate resilience in flood-prone regions of Jammu & Kashmir.

Addressing officials and local residents at the event, Itoo stressed the importance of proactive planning in mitigating flood risks. She highlighted that the projects would not only protect lives and property but also create employment opportunities for locals during the construction phase. “We are committed to ensuring that communities are protected from the adverse effects of floods through modern engineering and timely interventions,” she said.

District authorities welcomed the initiative, noting that these measures will significantly reduce economic and infrastructural losses, enhance public safety, and improve overall community resilience. With the onset of the winter season, officials have urged residents to cooperate with project teams and adhere to safety guidelines during construction activities.

The flood mitigation projects in Kulgam reflect the administration’s continuing commitment to strengthen infrastructure, safeguard livelihoods, and ensure sustainable development in vulnerable areas.
