Poonch, February 11,2026-Safer Internet Day was observed in Poonch district with great enthusiasm under the theme “Smart Tech, Safe Choice”, promoting responsible use of technology and Artificial Intelligence (AI). The awareness programme witnessed participation of over 13,000 people, both online and offline, reflecting strong community engagement towards digital safety and cyber awareness.
The event was presided over by Deputy Commissioner Poonch, Ashok Kumar Sharma, who highlighted the importance of digital literacy and safe internet practices in today’s technology-driven world. Addressing students, educators, officials, and members of the public, the DC emphasized the need for responsible use of social media platforms, protection of personal information, and vigilance against cyber threats.
“Technology is a powerful tool for growth and learning, but it must be used wisely and responsibly,” the Deputy Commissioner stated, urging citizens to stay informed about cyber risks and adopt secure online practices.
Focus on Digital Literacy and Cyber Safety
As part of the Safer Internet Day celebrations, awareness sessions were conducted across educational institutions and government offices in the district. Participants were educated about cybersecurity, safe browsing habits, responsible AI usage, data privacy, and prevention of online frauds.
District Information Officer Parvinder Singh shared practical tips on protecting personal data, creating strong passwords, identifying phishing attempts, and avoiding online scams. He stressed the importance of verifying information before sharing it on social media and encouraged reporting suspicious online activities to concerned authorities.
Promoting Responsible Use of Technology
The programme aimed to create awareness about the ethical and safe use of emerging technologies, including Artificial Intelligence tools. Officials reiterated that digital empowerment must go hand-in-hand with cyber responsibility to ensure a safe online environment for all age groups, especially students and young internet users.
