Kashmir, February 10,2026-Born in Jammu & Kashmir and now based in Mumbai, artist and educator Rouble Nagi has been recognized globally for her revolutionary approach to education, winning the $1 million Global Teacher Prize 2026 at the World Governments Summit in Dubai — often called the “Nobel of teaching.”
Rouble Nagi’s journey began not in classrooms but on walls. Through the Rouble Nagi Art Foundation, she has established over 800 community learning centres, transforming slums, lanes, and forgotten neighborhoods into living classrooms. Murals painted on walls teach literacy, mathematics, science, history, and life values, making education accessible and engaging for children who are often overlooked by conventional systems.
Beyond education, Rouble Nagi has also contributed to improving living conditions, repairing over 1.5 lakh houses across slums and villages, blending social development with learning initiatives. Her work emphasizes community empowerment, creative education, and inclusive development, inspiring educators and social workers across India and globally.
Rouble Nagi announced that she will use the prize money to build a free vocational training institute, further enabling underprivileged youth to pursue skills and dreams that might otherwise remain out of reach. Her recognition highlights the power of innovative education, art-driven learning, and social impact, placing India prominently on the global education map.
