Kashmir, January 29,2026-More than 3,000 passengers travelled on special Katra–Srinagar trains over the past two days, marking a significant boost to rail connectivity and passenger movement in Jammu and Kashmir, officials said on Wednesday.
The special train services were introduced to manage the surge in passenger demand, particularly from pilgrims, tourists, and local travellers, amid improved weather conditions and increased movement along the Jammu–Srinagar corridor. Railway authorities said the response from commuters has been overwhelmingly positive.
Officials noted that the special services ensured smooth, safe, and timely travel, helping ease pressure on road transport, especially on the Jammu–Srinagar National Highway, which often faces disruptions due to weather and landslides.
The Katra–Srinagar rail link, part of the ambitious Udhampur–Srinagar–Baramulla Rail Project (USBRL), is being seen as a game-changer for the region, offering faster connectivity, promoting tourism, and enhancing economic activity.
Railway officials added that additional special trains may be operated in the coming days if passenger demand continues to rise. Security and operational arrangements were kept robust to ensure hassle-free travel for passengers.
The successful operation of the special trains highlights the growing importance of rail transport in strengthening integration and mobility in Jammu and Kashmir.
