Jammu & Kashmir, November 26,2025– Jammu & Kashmir has successfully installed 3.81 lakh smart electricity meters since 2024, achieving 40 percent of the overall project target. The initiative is part of the region’s digital energy transformation program, aimed at improving efficiency, transparency, and consumer convenience in power distribution.
Officials stated that the smart meter rollout will help reduce power losses, enhance billing accuracy, and enable real-time monitoring of electricity usage. The project also aligns with national objectives of modernizing the power sector and promoting sustainable energy management.
The J&K administration has emphasised the importance of this initiative in ensuring reliable power supply, promoting digital infrastructure, and empowering consumers to track and manage their electricity consumption more effectively.
With continued implementation, the region aims to achieve 100 percent smart meter coverage, marking a significant step toward a modern, efficient, and consumer-friendly power system.
