Kashmir, September 25, 2025 – Real Kashmir FC has been thrust into the spotlight as part of the much-dreaded ‘Group of Death’ in the AIFF Super Cup 2025-26, following the official draw conducted virtually by the All India Football Federation (AIFF) on Thursday. The Srinagar-based outfit finds itself pitted against football heavyweights Mohun Bagan SG, East Bengal FC, and Chennaiyin FC in Group A, setting the stage for a grueling group stage battle that kicks off on October 25 in Goa.The Group of Death moniker has been aptly applied to Group A due to the presence of Kolkata’s arch-rivals Mohun Bagan SG and East Bengal FC, whose iconic derby is scheduled for October 31 at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Fatorda, with a 7:30 PM kick-off. This high-stakes clash, a repeat of their recent Durand Cup quarter-final where East Bengal emerged victorious, promises fireworks and could well determine the group’s progression. Joining the fray are ISL stalwarts Chennaiyin FC, now under the guidance of first-time Indian head coach Clifford Miranda, and the resilient Real Kashmir, representing the pride of Jammu and Kashmir.
The tournament opener on October 25 features East Bengal FC versus Real Kashmir FC at 5:00 PM, followed by Mohun Bagan SG taking on Chennaiyin FC at 7:30 PM. Real Kashmir’s campaign will test their mettle against established ISL sides, with their subsequent fixtures including a showdown against Mohun Bagan on October 29 and Chennaiyin on November 2. As the only I-League representative in the group, Real Kashmir enters with the underdog tag but carries the hopes of the Valley, aiming to spring surprises in a pool brimming with talent and tradition.
The AIFF Super Cup 2025-26 will see 16 teams from the ISL and I-League divided into four groups, with the top team from each advancing to the semi-finals after a 24-match group stage running until November 6. The event pauses briefly for the FIFA International Window, including India’s AFC Asian Cup Qualifier against Bangladesh on November 18. Defending champions FC Goa headline Group B alongside Jamshedpur FC, NorthEast United FC, and Inter Kashi, while Groups C and D feature Bengaluru FC, Mohammedan Sporting, Punjab FC, Gokulam Kerala, Mumbai City FC, Kerala Blasters, Hyderabad FC, and Rajasthan United FC.This draw not only reignites historic rivalries but also underscores the growing competitiveness of Indian football, with Real Kashmir’s inclusion adding a narrative of regional representation and resilience. All eyes will be on how the Snow Leopards navigate this formidable group to chase semifinal glory.
