Ramban, Jammu and Kashmir, April 26, 2025 – The District Administration Ramban, in collaboration with the Food, Civil Supplies, and Consumer Affairs (FCS&CA) Department, has successfully transported ration kits to flood-affected households in Bhagna village using ponies along the Sencha–Bhagna road. This initiative, led by Deputy Commissioner Baseer-Ul-Haq Chaudhary, underscores the administration’s commitment to ensuring essential supplies reach every household in the aftermath of the devastating flash floods and landslides triggered by a cloudburst on April 20, 2025.
The cloudburst in Seri Bagna, near Dharamkund, caused widespread destruction, claiming three lives, damaging 200–250 homes, and disrupting the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway. With roads like Sencha–Bhagna rendered impassable due to mudslides and debris, the administration employed ponies to navigate the rugged terrain and deliver critical supplies to isolated communities. Posts on X from the Ramban District Administration highlight this effort, noting that the FCS&CA Department, under the guidance of Assistant Director FCS&CA Ramban, ensured timely distribution to support families in need.
Deputy Commissioner Chaudhary, who has been overseeing relief operations across affected areas, emphasized the administration’s mission to leave no household without aid. “Our teams are working relentlessly to restore normalcy and ensure essentials like food and water reach every corner of Ramban,” he stated. The ration kits, containing staples such as rice, flour, and oil, are part of a broader relief strategy that includes water tanker deployments, medical camps, and electricity restoration, with 1,486 of 1,762 distribution transformers now functional.
The initiative has been supported by the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), Indian Army, and local volunteers, who have been instrumental in clearing debris and restoring access. Union Minister Jitendra Singh praised the administration’s prompt response, noting that additional resources are available if needed. The effort also aligns with ongoing rehabilitation plans, with the administration exploring Central assistance to declare Ramban a disaster zone.
Despite challenges posed by damaged infrastructure and heightened regional tensions following the Pahalgam terror attack on April 22, 2025, the delivery of ration kits to Bhagna reflects Ramban’s resilience and administrative efficiency. The administration continues to prioritize restoring the National Highway-44 and other critical services to support affected communities.
