Yasser’s Remarkable Journey A trainee of the Khelo India Boxing Centre in Rajouri, Yasser demonstrated extraordinary grit and technical prowess throughout the championship. He won five consecutive bouts, culminating in a dominant performance in the final. His journey is particularly inspiring given his challenging background. Having lost his father six years ago, Yasser has been raised by his mother, Nasim Akhtar, a domestic worker who supports the family through her modest earnings. “I didn’t even know he had won until someone told me,” Nasim shared with local media, expressing joy and pride. “We don’t have a mobile phone at home. Yasser’s hard work and focus made this possible.”
Guided by Dedication and Mentorship Yasser’s success is credited to his discipline and the guidance of his coach, Ishtaq Malik, a former national-level boxer. Malik’s mentorship has been instrumental in honing Yasser’s skills, transforming him into a formidable athlete. “His discipline and hunger to learn are commendable. He is a future star,” said Mohd Tariq, a local sports figure. The victory has sparked widespread celebration in Rajouri, with the community rallying behind their young champion.A Milestone for Jammu and Kashmir Yasser’s achievement marks a significant moment for Jammu and Kashmir, highlighting the potential of youth from border regions. Rajan Sharma, a veteran boxer and former Divisional Sports Officer with the J&K Sports Council, described the win as “a moment of immense pride for the entire Union Territory.”
The championship, hosted at Galgotias University, saw Haryana dominate the team titles, but Yasser’s individual triumph stood out as a testament to the region’s emerging talent.Call for Support and Future Aspirations Sports enthusiasts and locals have urged the government and sports authorities to provide financial and institutional support to Yasser to nurture his talent further. His gold medal not only elevates Jammu and Kashmir’s presence in national sports but also underscores the importance of investing in young athletes from rural and border areas to unlock their potential on larger stages.
