PULWAMA, September 18, 2025 – Pulwama district kicked off the nationwide Sewa Parv 2025 celebrations with a grand launch event at the Administrative Complex, where Deputy Commissioner (DC) Dr. Basharat Qayoom, along with Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) P.D. Nitya, inaugurated a series of community-focused initiatives. The fortnight-long campaign, running from September 17 to October 2, embodies the spirit of selfless service, promoting public participation in governance and social welfare across Jammu & Kashmir.The inaugural ceremony, attended by district officers, local leaders, civil society representatives, and volunteers, set the tone for transformative activities aligned with the theme “Sewa Parv” – a celebration of inclusive development and collective responsibility. DC Dr. Basharat Qayoom, who recently reviewed comprehensive preparations for the event, emphasized integrating the campaign’s ethos into every village, school, and institution in Pulwama. “Sewa Parv is more than an event; it’s a people’s movement to foster social responsibility and visible change through sustained efforts,” he stated during the launch, urging departments to ensure impactful outreach.SSP P.D. Nitya, joining the DC in the ribbon-cutting for the initiatives, highlighted the role of community-police synergy in driving these programs, particularly in areas like environmental conservation and public safety.
The duo led the formal inauguration of multiple on-site activities, marking a proactive start to the district’s action plan. Preparatory meetings chaired by the DC had earlier outlined inter-departmental convergence to maximize participation and service delivery.
Key initiatives launched and rolled out across Pulwama include:
- Plantation Drives: Large-scale tree-planting campaigns in urban green belts, school premises, and vulnerable eco-zones to promote biodiversity and combat climate change, involving students, SHGs, and local youth.
- Aid Distribution: On-spot delivery of essential welfare kits, financial assistance under schemes like PM Awas Yojana and NRLM, targeting marginalized families, elderly, and differently-abled persons.
- Health Camps: Mega medical outreach with free screenings for anemia, diabetes, maternal health, and vaccinations, conducted at CHCs and PHCs, in collaboration with NHM and Red Cross.
- Cleanliness Campaigns: Intensive Swachhata drives, including waste segregation workshops and riverbank clean-ups along the Jhelum, aligning with Swachh Bharat Abhiyan to eliminate single-use plastics.
These activities, coordinated by departments such as Health, Education, Rural Development, and Environment, aim to enhance transparency, accessibility, and accountability in public services. Additional components feature awareness sessions on drug de-addiction, skill development workshops, and cultural programs to engage communities holistically. The district administration has mobilized PRIs, NGOs, and volunteers to ensure widespread coverage, with monitoring mechanisms for real-time progress tracking.As Pulwama joins the national Sewa Parv movement, the launch event not only galvanized local enthusiasm but also reinforced the district’s commitment to good governance and sustainable development, paving the way for a cleaner, healthier, and more empowered society.
