Kashmir, June 4,2026-In a major boost to the agricultural sector, Pulwama district, widely known as Kashmir’s garlic hub, has established its first-ever dedicated Garlic Mandi at the Prichoo Fruit Mandi. The initiative is expected to transform garlic marketing in the region by providing farmers with direct access to buyers and better price realization for their produce.
The newly established mandi aims to reduce farmers’ dependence on middlemen, ensuring that a larger share of profits reaches the growers. By creating a centralized marketplace for garlic trade, the facility will enable transparent pricing and streamline the marketing process for thousands of cultivators in the district.
Pulwama is one of the leading garlic-producing regions in Jammu & Kashmir, with a significant number of farming families relying on garlic cultivation as a source of livelihood. The dedicated Garlic Mandi is expected to strengthen the agricultural value chain and improve the economic prospects of local farmers.
Officials believe the mandi will attract traders and buyers not only from different parts of the Valley but also from outside Jammu & Kashmir, creating a wider market for locally produced garlic. Increased competition among buyers is likely to help farmers secure better returns and encourage higher production in the coming years.
Farmers have welcomed the initiative, describing it as a long-awaited step towards improving agricultural marketing infrastructure. They expressed hope that the mandi will help them overcome market challenges, expand their customer base, and receive fair compensation for their produce.
The establishment of the Garlic Mandi at Prichoo Fruit Mandi marks another milestone in Pulwama’s agricultural development and reinforces its position as Kashmir’s premier garlic-producing district.
