Kashmir, May 13, 2025 – Prime Minister Narendra Modi made an unannounced visit to Adampur Air Base in Punjab on Tuesday, May 13, 2025, to meet and commend Indian Air Force personnel and soldiers for their bravery during Operation Sindoor. The visit, occurring shortly after a ceasefire agreement between India and Pakistan, highlighted India’s unwavering commitment to counter-terrorism and national security.
Arriving at the air base, located 25 km from Jalandhar, at approximately 6:15 AM, Modi was received by Air Chief Marshal A.P. Singh. During his hour-long stay, he interacted with jawans, received a briefing on the security situation, and lauded the personnel’s courage in executing Operation Sindoor. Launched on May 7, 2025, the operation targeted terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir in retaliation for the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, which claimed 26 lives. Adampur Air Base, equipped with MiG-29 fighter jets and the S-400 air defense system, played a critical role despite facing Pakistani retaliatory strikes on May 9-10.
Addressing the troops, Modi praised their resilience, stating, “Your courage and dedication protect our nation’s honor. India stands tall because of you.” He later posted on X, “Meeting our brave air warriors at Adampur Air Base was an honor. Their fearlessness inspires us all. Our armed forces are the backbone of our security.” The visit countered Pakistani claims of damaging the base, with visuals of Modi alongside an intact S-400 system circulating widely online.
Operation Sindoor, which neutralised over 100 terrorists from groups like Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Mohammad, was described by Modi as a defining moment in India’s fight against terrorism. The ceasefire, effective since May 10, has restored calm along the Line of Control and International Border (IB), allowing Modi’s visit to serve as both a morale booster and a strategic signal to Pakistan.
The enthusiastic response from soldiers, marked by chants of “Bharat Mata Ki Jai,” underscored the high spirits at the base. Modi’s scheduled address from Adampur at 3:30 PM is anticipated to reaffirm India’s resolve to maintain peace while staying vigilant against future threats.
