Srinagar, J&K, September 10, 2025 — Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to visit Jammu and Kashmir in the coming days to assess the extensive damage caused by recent floods, cloudbursts, and landslides across the region. The visit follows his recent trip to Himachal Pradesh on September 9, where he reviewed similar devastation and announced a financial assistance package of Rs 1,500 crore. PM Modi’s J&K visit will include an aerial survey of the severely affected areas of Katra and Chasoti, with plans to announce a special relief package for flood-affected people, according to sources.Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and organizational General Secretary Ashok Koul confirmed to local media that the Prime Minister will take a “first-hand account of the damages caused by the recent natural calamities.”
The visit, expected to be scheduled soon, will focus on evaluating the impact of catastrophic events, including landslides that claimed over 35 lives en route to the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine in Katra last month and a devastating landslide in Chasoti village, Kishtwar district, where more than 65 people perished.
The Prime Minister’s itinerary includes an aerial survey of the landslide-hit holy town of Katra and Chasoti, areas that have suffered significant loss of life and infrastructure damage due to relentless rainfall and natural disasters. Sources indicate that PM Modi is likely to announce a relief package tailored to support flood victims, similar to the aid provided in Himachal Pradesh, which included advance releases of the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) and PM Kisan Samman Nidhi, alongside ex-gratia payments of Rs 2 lakh for families of the deceased and Rs 50,000 for the injured. The J&K flood situation has shown slight improvement, with water levels in the Jhelum River and other water bodies receding below danger levels in most areas, though some locations remain at risk. The Union Government has deployed Inter-Ministerial Central Teams (IMCTs) to assess damages in J&K, with findings expected to guide further assistance. The Prime Minister has emphasized a multi-dimensional approach to recovery, including rebuilding homes under the PM Awas Yojana, restoring national highways, and supporting agricultural communities affected by the floods.
PM Modi’s visit underscores the Modi government’s commitment to swift relief and rehabilitation, with ongoing efforts by the NDRF, SDRF, Army, and local administrations praised for their rescue operations. The visit is expected to boost morale among affected communities and reinforce the Centre’s support for disaster recovery in the region.
