Srinagar, April 1,2026- Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday lauded the growing enthusiasm for sports in Jammu and Kashmir, highlighting the Union Territory’s emergence as a vibrant sporting hub during his address in the latest edition of Mann Ki Baat.
The Prime Minister noted that from the snow-covered slopes of Gulmarg to bustling football grounds across the Kashmir Valley, a strong sports culture is taking root among the youth. He emphasized that this transformation reflects a new energy and aspiration, positioning J&K as a “new sporting शक्ति of New India.”
Highlighting a major milestone, PM Modi congratulated the Jammu and Kashmir cricket team for their historic triumph in the Ranji Trophy. Calling it a proud moment for the entire nation, he said the victory would inspire countless young athletes in the region to pursue sports as a career.
“The success of J&K’s Ranji team will have a very positive impact. It will motivate youth, strengthen sports infrastructure, and create new opportunities,” he remarked.
The Prime Minister further underscored that increased participation in sports is not only fostering talent but also promoting discipline, unity, and a spirit of excellence among young people in the Union Territory.
In recent years, Jammu and Kashmir has witnessed a surge in sports activities, improved infrastructure, and greater participation at national levels. From winter sports in Gulmarg to football, क्रिकेट, and other disciplines across districts, the region is steadily carving a niche on India’s sporting map.
PM Modi’s remarks are being seen as a strong endorsement of the ongoing efforts to promote sports in J&K, reinforcing the vision of youth empowerment and holistic development through athletics.
