In a stirring address to the nation at 8 PM IST, Prime Minister Narendra Modi celebrated the success of Operation Sindoor, India’s resolute military response to the April 22, 2025, Pahalgam terror attack that claimed 26 lives. Speaking from Kashmir, Modi described the operation as a defining moment in India’s fight against cross-border terrorism, sending a clear message to Pakistan and terror groups: India will respond decisively when provoked. Launched on May 7, Operation Sindoor targeted nine terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir , neutralising over 100 terrorists with pinpoint accuracy. The Indian Armed Forces deployed advanced weaponry, including BrahMos supersonic cruise missiles, SCALP long-range missiles, and Hammer precision-guided bombs delivered by Rafale jets. PM Narendra Modi praised the operation’s precision, which ensured no civilian casualties, crediting the armed forces, intelligence agencies like the Research and Analysis Wing , and defense scientists for their meticulous coordination. The operation was planned under the guidance of Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, and National Security Advisor Ajit Doval. The operation’s name, “Sindoor,” carried deep cultural significance, honoring the widows of the Pahalgam victims. Sindoor, the vermilion powder symbolising marital bonds in Indian tradition, underscored the mission’s emotional weight. “This operation is a pledge to every mother, sister, and daughter of India that their pain will not go unanswered,” Narendra Modi declared, dedicating the success to the nation’s women. Tensions escalated after Pakistan retaliated with drone and missile attacks on Indian bases from May 8 to 10. India responded swiftly, targeting Pakistani airbases like Rafiqui and Chaklala, showcasing its military dominance. A ceasefire was brokered on May 10 through direct military channels, but Modi condemned Pakistan’s subsequent violations, stating, “India seeks peace, but not at the cost of its sovereignty.” India maintained transparency by informing global powers, including the United States, United Kingdom, Russia, and United Arab Emirates, about its actions. Addressing concerns from the United Nations and Amnesty International about alleged civilian casualties, Modi reiterated that the strikes targeted only terror infrastructure, reinforcing India’s commitment to ethical warfare. To unite the nation in pride, PM Narendra Modi announced a Bharatiya Janata Party-led Tiranga Yatra from May 13 to 23, celebrating the operation’s success. “Operation Sindoor is the heartbeat of 1.4 billion Indians,” he said, urging citizens to honour the armed forces. The operation signals a new doctrine of preemptive defense, with PM Narendra Modi warning, “Any attack on India will face consequences on our terms, at a place and time of our choosing.” Operation Sindoor marks a shift in India’s approach to terrorism, blending military precision, cultural symbolism, and diplomatic clarity. It stands as a testament to India’s resilience and unity, galvanising the nation under Modi’s leadership.
