This move not only acknowledges the diverse socio-economic landscape of the region but also addresses historical injustices faced by marginalised communities. Furthermore, the government’s commitment to providing one-third reservation for women in Assemblies is a commendable effort towards gender equality and representation. By ensuring the participation of women in governance, the government is fostering a more inclusive and democratic society in Jammu and Kashmir.Moreover, the decision to grant separate reservation for the hill people, including the Gujar Bakarwal community, demonstrates a nuanced understanding of the unique challenges faced by different groups within the region. This proactive approach in addressing the needs of marginalised communities sets a positive precedent for inclusive policymaking.Critically, these initiatives were undertaken without infringing upon the rights of any community or compromising the integrity of the region. The government’s efforts to accommodate those displaced from Pakistan-occupied Kashmir reflect a commitment to humanitarian values and social justice. It is worth noting that these rights and reservations were granted after the abrogation of Article 370, signaling a new era of equitable development and opportunities for the people of Jammu and Kashmir. The government’s resolve to fulfil its promises, as evidenced by the timely implementation of these measures, underscores its commitment to the welfare of the region’s residents. However, it is regrettable that some political figures have attempted to politicise these developments for their own gain. The attempts by certain leaders to sow discord and create controversy around the issue of reservations only serve to undermine the progress achieved by the government. The Narendra Modi government’s decision to extend OBC reservation and ensure greater representation for marginalized communities in Jammu and Kashmir reflects a commitment to social justice and inclusive development. By prioritising the welfare of all residents, regardless of their background, the government is laying the foundation for a more equitable and prosperous future for the region.
